Larger projects demand larger diameter digester tanks. As a result, quasar has moved into using hydraulic mixing technologies for all projects having tanks larger than sixty feet in diameter. Modeled using computational fluid dynamics, quasar has found that hydraulic mixing can reduce or eliminate the accumulation of grit within the digester, adapting this technology to smaller digester tanks as well.
Hydraulic mixing utilizes a centrifugal pump to recirculate the contents of the digester through strategically installed nozzles inside. The highly effective flow generated from the nozzles create the high velocities needed to aid in solid suspension, and minimizing foam and scum at the top of digester. The mixing pattern typically consists of a top to bottom and circular fluid motion to achieve and sustain optimal process conditions.
Hydraulic mixing has no moving parts inside the tank which allows all maintenance on the pumps take place from the outside.
