Mel Kurtz, President
For forty-five years, Kurtz has founded, directed, and operated businesses from start up to millions in annual sales through effective business planning, creative sales techniques, and innovative marketing. Kurtz is currently the President of quasar energy group. He has been repeatedly recognized by industry leaders for his experience in the biogas industry and role as a visionary for the growing US anaerobic digestion market. Kurtz has been with quasar since its' founding in 2006.

Steve Smith, Chief Financial Officer
Smith has 20 years of financial and operational experience in capacities ranging from Vice President to Chief Financial Officer. Smith was formerly Vice-President of Finance for Next Media Operating, Co., a $750 million holding company specializing in the aggregation of out-of-home media. Smith's responsibilities with quasar energy group include operational financing, establishment of financing options for clients, the negotiations of primary and ancillary sales, and securing other financial options with regard to investors and grant development programs and incentives.
Scott Nally, Chief Operating Officer
Nally brings more than 20 years of public and private environmental management experience to quasar energy group. Prior to quasar, Nally served as the former Director of the Ohio EPA for three years. Before this position, Nally spent six years as the assistant commissioner of the Indiana Department of Environmental Management. Scott has an undergraduate degree in biological sciences from North Carolina State University and a master’s degree in science from the University of Wyoming. In his role, Scott provides leadership, management and the vision necessary to ensure operating efficiency.
Monte King, Vice President, Construction
Monte has directed the construction of eleven of quasar’s anaerobic digestion facilities during his six years with the company. He closely collaborates with plant operators to ensure that digester construction and design are practical when compared operational knowledge. Monte consistently delivers turn-key systems to clients under budget and on schedule. Throughout the development process, King works with Civil, Mechanical, and Industrial engineers to produce engineering drawings and cost effective solutions for each unique customer.
Alan Johnson, Vice President, Project Management & Development
Johnson has thirty plus years of experience in manufacturing and business start-up having held positions in industrial engineering, human resources, quality, marketing and sales and general management primarily in the automotive industry in supply industries that included rubber, plastics, fiberglass, and steel. Johnson is a registered engineer in Ohio and holds an M.B.A. from Lake Erie College and a Bachelors in Industrial Engineering from the Fenn College of Engineering of Cleveland State University. With quasar, Johnson’s responsibilities are to manage quasar’s anaerobic digestion projects for high profile clients.
